Cost & Finance

The cost of the procedure

The cost of the procedure is based upon the number of grafts performed during the procedure. This will be determined by the doctor or Client Counsellor at the consultation stage and is dependent upon the size of the area to be treated, the density we are trying to achieve in the recipient area, the density of the hair in the donor area and the elasticity of the skin in the donor area.

During the consultation, you will be informed as to the number of grafts that could be removed and the ultimate cost of the procedure. On average the cost of one procedure is around $15,000 for men and $11,000 for women. As mentioned, these are just averages and should not be used as a basis to estimate the cost of your procedure. Your price may be more or dramatically less depending on what you require and what we can possibly obtain.

When discussing cost, it should be remembered that what you are ultimately searching for is value. Value has two components, quality and price. When considering hair transplantation, you only have one opportunity to get it right the first time. Bearing that in mind, the end result should be the overriding factor in your decision as to which surgeon you will trust to perform your procedure, whoever it may be.

Cost Comparisons of Hair Loss Treatments

Is the financial cost of a hair transplant preventing you from taking the next step?

What many hair loss sufferers do not realise is that hair transplantation usually offers the most value in the long term when compared with other treatment options of baldness.

The reason for this is because there are no ongoing maintenance costs when it comes to a hair transplant. Other treatments such as lotions, tablets or wigs (known as units or hair grafts by the clinics) do have ongoing costs.

* Cost of treatments can vary depending on the place of purchase. The treatments can be found with prices that are less or more than the amounts quoted on this table.

** Figure obtained from patients who wore units that came in to see NHI for a consult. They commonly quoted a maintenance cost of $4000 - $5000 every year.

# Some patients may decide to have a second hair transplant to increase coverage. This would bring the total cost over 25 years to about $30,000. Second procedures have a reduced cost.

## The transplanted hairs never require ongoing maintenance. However further hair loss of the patient’s pre-existing hair that surrounds or blends in with the transplanted region is a possibility over the long term. Due to this reason some patients opt to take one of the FDA approved medications listed in columns one and two to stop or slow future hair loss or alternatively a subsequent procedure can be performed to address further hair loss if and when required. Your doctor will advise on this during your consultation.

The table puts things in perspective doesn't it?

When thinking about the cost of a treatment, do not only think about the money. Also think about the time that each option costs you. Eg Time to apply lotions to your scalp each day; Time sacrificed to visit your GP in order to obtain another script for the tablets; Time to go out and buy the product at a pharmacy; Time to get your wig refitted at the clinic each month; Time to brush your hair with a laser comb; etc. These are examples of the way many people sacrifice time to treat hair loss. These are things you must be fully aware of before you commence any form of hair loss treatment.

A Follicular Unit Grafting (FUG) hair transplant procedure consistently delivers impressive and natural looking results that are permanent! A hair transplant gives you an abundant amount of new hair which will grow and won’t require any special ongoing maintenance to keep the hair from falling out. Hair transplantation is the only permanent solution to hair loss! In the long run, hair transplantation saves time and money for the patient.
