In 1996 Dr. White learnt the latest techniques with leading Canadian Doctor, David Seager (who is internationally recognised as a leading innovator in the field of hair transplantation).
The current techniques were implemented at the National Hair Institute head office in Melbourne, 1996. To date these techniques have proven very successful in restoring not only hair but also the confidence of today's hair loss sufferers.
Dr White has over 40 years experience in the medical field and 26 years experience in the hair restoration field. He is a former President of the Australasian Society of Hair Restoration Society and is also an active member of the International Society of Hair Restoration Surgery. Dr. White is also an active member of the Australasian College Of Cosmetic Surgery.
In 1996 Dr White travelled to Toronto Canada and spent time with Dr Seager to learn the technique of dissecting grafts with the Binocular Dissecting Microscope. This technique was instituted in the latter part of 1996 and we began getting much better growth from each procedure. Since 1996 every graft prepared by NHI has been by using this method.
In 1998 Dr White went again to Dr Seager to have his own hair transplant done. This was completed using a dense packing technique and this was incorporated into the National Hair Institute procedure following his return. The advantages of this process are that we are to get better growth than previously because we are using smaller recipient holes for a better fit between graft and host and also we were able to achieve much greater density in one procedure.
In 2002 Dr White began an intensive investigation and change of systems at NHI to attain ISO 9002 certification. This certification was achieved in 2003 and ensures that all staff follow set procedures to ensure consistent outcomes for our patients.
In 2006 Dr White came to the realisitation that for the business to continue too grow, prosper and embrace the new technologies becoming available he would need to step aside from the day to day surgical duties and pass on his knowledge and experience to others. And also to bring in new surgeons with their own unique skills and enthusiasm for the field of hair transplantation.
Currently Dr White is very actively involved in the management of the business and the investigation and implementation of new surgical techniques.
Medical Director Dr. Rhett Bosnich, MB.BS
In 2006 he found himself seeking new challenges and was introduced to Dr Barry White who was looking to train someone new in all facets of hair transplantation and handover the day to day surgical duties at NHI . As a result Dr Bosnich left cosmetic medicine to work exclusively at the NHI as their Medical Director and now performs in excess of 300 hair transplant procedures per year.
In 2007 Dr Bosnich attended the International Society of Hair Restoration Surgeons (ISHRS) meeting in Las Vegas, USA and is a current member of the ISHRS.
Current member of the Cosmetic Physicians Society of Australia
Current member of the International Academy of Cosmetic Dermatology (IACD)
Current fellow of the American Society for Lasers in Medicine and Surgery
Counsellor John Mandic

John Mandic was employed by the NHI in January 2007 to inform and educate prospective patients about the procedures that are performed here at the NHI.
However John’s relationship with the NHI goes back a little further than that though because he first came to see us for a consultation in 2005 for his own hair loss problem. And in January 2006 he had a Follicular Unit Grafting procedure performed.
During 2006 the NHI was searching for a person to come on board and relieve the doctors of the initial consultation process and to educate prospective patients about the procedure and during Johns check ups @ 4, 8 and 12 months post operatively it became apparent that he would be the perfect candidate for the role.

A word from John
“With me now working at the National Hair Institute it gives clients the opportunity and benefit of seeing a hair transplant result close up during their consultation.”
“They are always curious to know whether the procedure is painful and what feedback was received once the transplanted hair grew out. And i was just like them before the procedure, i spent months doing research and agonising over my decision. So having somebody who has been through it, that they can talk to is a real bonus for them.”
“If you are in the early stages of hair loss come in for a consultation so that i can meet you. There will be no high pressure sales pitch (i didn't like it when i was looking for a solution either). All you will receive from me is the information on what you can do to address your hair loss. What you decide to do with it is up to you.”
“I wish you all the best in your search and a successful outcome whatever you decide to do.”
Theatre Technicians
Our core theatre staff have worked closely with Dr White for many years. They have been with us through the developing stages of Follicular Unit Grafting in the late 1990’s and have a great deal of expertise in the areas of Stereo Microscopic Dissection, Follicular Unit handling and graft placement.
Our senior staff are also an integral part of our 12 month hair transplant technician traineeship program for all new staff.
All NHI theatre technicians regularly undergo competency assessments as well as ongoing training.
Because of the intensive and intricate nature of the work both in the dissecting and placement of grafts it is necessary to carry a large team of techs so they may be alternately rotated and rested throughout the working day.
The NHI has also secondend its staff to international facilities to assist them in the training of their hair transplant technicians.
Client Coordinator Liz Byrne
Liz’s primary role at the National Hair Institute is to create a relationship with those who are experiencing hair loss, to help them understand what is causing it, provide them with information on the various treatments available and how we at NHI may be able to assist them. Liz also organises our information seminars in both Sydney and Melbourne so that prospective patients may come along and see firsthand the results achievable from modern hair transplantation and also to discuss with these past patients their experiences before, during and after surgery.
“When I first talk to people, some feel that their situation is hopeless but after they receive our information and come along to one of our seminars they realise that there is something they can do to improve not only their hair, but also how they feel about themselves and I find that aspect of the role very satisfying. And for those that do decide to go ahead, to see the transformation 12-18 months after the procedure just adds to that satisfaction.”
Clinic Director Marcus White
Dr White is partnered in the Practice by his son, Marcus White. Marcus has been with the National Hair Institute since 1994 and has worked extensively with its many clients and acts as Patient Advisor.
Marcus frequently represents the National Hair Institute's expertise at seminars around the world.
